The Great Artists

This course will explore the lives and works of some of the greatest artists of all time. We will look at their subjects, working methods, and motivations. Each will be set in the context of his/her historical time. Included will be sessions on Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Monet, Michelangelo and Leonardo, Jackson Pollock, Picasso and a number of others.  One session will be held at the Art Gallery of NSW



Aboriginal Art Studies -Master Classes.

Thursday 8th May - 10.30am  - 3.30pm.


For many years now I have been asked to conduct ‘in depth’ classes in Aboriginal Art. Series three follows the very successful Series One and Two held in recent times. So here is your opportunity. Over three sessions we will discuss significant aspects of the history, development and current state of Aboriginal Art in Australia. Included will be input from recognised experts in the field. Rare film will be shown and discussed and students will be expected to participate in ‘tutorial’ situations and some writing and research  over and before the seven day period of classes. $385.00pp for the three sessions. (light lunch included each day). The group will be limited to twelve people. Please book early. Classes will be held at the Mary Place Gallery, 12 Mary Place Paddington (classes held in conjuncton with the exhibition “Desert Dreaming”

Course Outline:

·You will be required to undertake some preliminary reading and research

·By late March I will have allocated discussion and essay topics to each participant.

·You will be expected to take part in tutorial situations where you will discuss given topics individually and with a small group.

·One piece of written work (c.2,000 words) on a topic of your choice, to be submitted on week two.

Australian Aboriginal Art

A one day seminar.
Thursday August 21st

The object of this day is to discuss and explore the rise and present day popularity of Australian Aboriginal art. We will trace its beginnings from 60,000 year ago until the present time. This is a remarkable journey. Most aspects, including desert painting, bark painting and rock art will be considered. Included will be discussions on techniques, mythologies and outstanding contemporary painters and their work. The seminar will consist of several morning lectures at the WEA building followed by an afternoon session at the Art Gallery of NSW
